Aroma
Showing aromatic floral notes and fresh blackcurrant and dark cherry fruits, along with earthy toasted spice, and hints of anise.
Palate
The palate is ful flavoured with good complexity showing a mixture of fruits of the forest, hints of mint and floral lavender characters and background oak spice. Has good intensity and fine long finish.
Vineyard
Sourced from two sites in close proximity; one with red clay over limestone providing richness and intensity, the other at the base of the hilside on a sandy loam soil also over limestone-which provides freshness and elegance to the wine.
Season
2021 vintage in Padthaway is one to remember with near perfect conditions. Dry and warm weather during flowering led to realy good berry set that happened quickly, resulting in even ripening of the fruit. Very few heat/rain events meant fruit flavours had maximum time to develop, allowing harvest to occur when parcels were ready.
Maturation
Fermented on skins for eight days before being pressed and transferred to barrel for 18 months. 100% French oak used (15% new).
